BALLOON DILATATION OF PULMONARY VALVE

This is done in cases where pulmonary artery is narrowed at a localized segment and is amenable for dilatation by using a balloon and stent is not possible due to issues like low weight etc.

This can be done in cases of congenital variety of stenosis of pulmonary artery or in post-operative cases with narrowing occur in pulmonary artery due to an operative complication.

We do this treatment from the vessels of leg (femoral vein) and after parking a suitable catheter and wire across the narrowed segment, we inflate a balloon across the affected segment over the pre-placed wire.

As children are not co-operative most of the times, so we need to calm and sedate the child with intravenous medications.

Later on, when the child grows then we can place a stent across the stenosed segment for better outcome.
